I use 2 monitors, my laptop and an extra monitor. I want to have 2 separate instances of MS Project open, one in each monitor, so I can view both together. I've been unable to achieve this. Anyone know how? It is not possible to open multiple windows in Microsoft Project and then to display one of the windows on an extended Windows desktop, which is what I infer you to mean when you say, "move one of the project to a different screen.

The solution we look for is to have two separate Project instances, with windows that we can tile at the Windows Desktop level. To display two separate projects at once when you have two monitors perform the following steps:. Open both projects. Both projects will now show up in the window stacked vertically.
Grab the right hand side of the window and expand it onto the right hand monitor. Select whichever project you want on the right side and drag it onto the other monitor.

I agree that this is a frustrating problem, and can't understand why they don't code this to work in Project, as it does work in the rest of the office suite. It provides you with the ability to display two plans on multiple monitors, but the initial setup is a pain if you don't already have the integrated Virtual PC option working.
I think Dale has the correct answer here from a Microsoft perspective. Everyone saying go to the "window" selection on project either don't understand the question or have never tried this. I regularly work on two or more monitors and leverage them for things like this all the time.
It seems to work with all versions up to It seems to be pretty intuitive and works similar to Project, but you cannot do anything but view the project in various views that are similar to MS Project.
If you need to update both projects I think you are probably out of luck though. I too have Project and was not able to open 2 separate projects on 2 separate windows.
Were you able to do this? The New Window Option doesn't spawn a separate instance of Project that you can view on another monitor.
Dale has it right, IMHO. An MDI application encloses all open documents within its main window. An MDI app is generally harder to work with using standard windows multiple window support when plugging in a VGA cable to a projector for instance.
Word is depending on version SDI. MS Word is easy to work with across multiple monitors. Sorry, Barbara, but that did not accomplish the desired result. I tried your way and it still requires me to switch from one to the other. The objective is this. I want to see Project A in one window and Project B in a different window, simultaneously. I want to put the two side-by-side so I can do a "stare and compare". Doing an "Arrange All" doesn't allow me to see enough of each plan.

Seems like I'm responding to this many years later, but this method does work. I followed the steps from Aruzlud, but initially did not work as I thought. What needs to be specified here is:. Grab the window: this means to grab the instance of the main window and stretch this window across both screens. Basically, now you have an initial instance that stretches across both screens. Now you have a huge background that you can move your multiple windows around on.
